John F. Barrett is a member in the Philadelphia office where he concentrates his practice in insurance defense, complex litigation and subrogation. In addition, John has defended governmental agencies and has extensive experience in public sector contracting and information security. He is licensed to practice in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York and he has been admitted to United States District Court for the Districts of New Jersey, Eastern and Middle Pennsylvania, Eastern and Southern New York, the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, the Dubai International Finance Center Court, the Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, and the Army Court of Criminal Appeals.
Prior to joining the firm, John was a partner at two other firms. Currently, he serves in the Army Reserve where he has worked in the post 9/11 security mission, Afghanistan and the Hurricane Katrina Rescue Mission in New Orleans. John prosecuted the first courts martial in Afghanistan and investigated and adjudicated multiple fraudulent claims against the US government in Afghanistan and the surrounding countries involving contracts, property damage, property theft and condemnation, cargo loss, personal injury, wrongful death, and premises liability.
John received his J.D. from Widener University School of Law in 1992 and clerked for the Honorable Joseph T. Doyle of the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania. He received his B.A. from Cornell University. A German speaker, John has also studied at the Goethe Institute in Frankfurt, Germany.
John is a member of the Philadelphia and New Jersey Bar Associations, the Commission on Judicial Selection and Retention, and the Risk and Insurance Managers Society (RIMS). He also volunteers his time with the Support Center for Child Advocates as a Volunteer Child Advocate.
